Event overview

The Cannock Chase Trigs running race takes place on Sunday 11 January 2026 and is organised by Mercia Fell Runners. The event is an off-road, self-navigated course of 26.5 km with 540 m total ascent. Entry is pre-register only, with entries opening 1 November, a limit of 160 competitors and a pre-entry deadline of Friday 9 January. Entry fees are £13 for FRA members and £15 for non-members. SI electronic timing will be used and runners are allocated dibbers; a £40 charge applies for lost or unreturned dibbers. Results will be posted on the Mercia website within 24 hours.

Course and logistics

The route starts and finishes at Milford Common (GR 975 210) and requires runners to visit the checkpoints in order: Rifle Range (995 180), Moors Gorse (025 151), Castle Ring (043 128), Moors Gorse again (025 151), and Glacial Boulder (980 181), then return to Milford Common. The terrain includes forest single track, sandy climbs and open heathland, with a trig point on the high ground. A race-specific map can be purchased via the SI Entries system and a copy is available on the organiser’s site. FRA mandatory kit must be carried or worn: full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, whistle and compass. There will be a 2 minute time-out both ways at Moors Gorse for a safe road crossing. Registration is at Milford Hall Cricket Club (Milford, ST17 0UL, GR973204 OS127). Toilets, changing rooms and showers are available; refreshments and prizes are provided by event sponsors.
