Staffs Knot 5 Mile and Fun Run
Staffs Knot is an annual summer running event on Cannock Chase organised by Stafford Harriers. It comprises a main chip timed five mile race and a separate two mile fun run that uses local paths and visitor centre surroundings. The event is part of the NSRRA race series and awards points and race prizes.
The two courses use different surfaces. The fun run is on tarmac or gravel with occasional mud deposits. The main race follows a mix of trails and pathways, including sections through woods that can be muddy and wet. Competitors choose footwear at their own discretion. The course was measured on 8 June 2017 by a member of the Association of UK Course Measurers and certified as accurate. A new route was introduced in 2025 to avoid a grazing area.
Prizes and entries vary by race. The fun run offers medals for all finishers, age-category prizes for under 15s, no minimum age but under 8s must be accompanied in line with UK Athletics guidelines, and a limit of 100 runners. The main race includes a bespoke medal and a Purity Point Five low alcohol beer for finishers, individual team and age prizes, trophies for first under 19 male and female, course record prizes, a race limit of 500 runners, and a live results service.
