About the race
Camp Lug-A-Chug is a volunteer weekend organized by Go Beyond Racing in Cougar, WA, that supports a nearby race by hiking water into remote aid stations on the volcano. Activities take place from Marble Mountain Sno Park lower lot and include one- or two-day participation options.
Each day's roundtrip hike to the aid stations is about 9 miles. Organizers provide food after each hike. There is no participation fee; the event is offered as a volunteer opportunity.
Participants carry water and supplies into the aid stations. Prizes include a free race entry for the person who carries the most weight relative to their body weight and a prize for the most combined weight carried across the two days. Loaner large backpacks are available, and trekking poles are noted as helpful. Participants are expected to bring a large backpack if available, plus the snacks and water they will consume on the hike.
Camping is possible nearby on Friday and Saturday nights, and attendees often share meals and stories in the evenings. The event is presented as a way to help support aid stations while spending time on the volcano with other volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
