Camp Leavenworth 5K
The Camp Leavenworth 5K Run & Walk is a five-kilometer event in historic downtown Leavenworth, Kansas, returning for its fifth year on 09/19/2026. The course begins and ends near Choctaw and S 2nd Street and uses closed-to-traffic roads that pass along the bluffs above the Missouri River. The route includes an out-and-back with a loop through Bob Dougherty Park and a south loop that reaches a U-turn at Linn Street before returning along South Esplanade and Olive to the finish.
The event is open to runners and walkers. Strollers are welcome; bicycles and pets other than service animals are not allowed. Children aged 14 to 18 may run on their own; children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire course. Kids under 18 register for free; free children's registrations do not include a t-shirt, though shirts can be ordered at checkout until August 31 and limited quantities may be available at packet pickup on Friday, September 18.
All finishers receive medals. Participants aged 18 and over receive a race shirt. A beverage ticket is provided to finishers age 21 and up. The event offers age-group awards in roughly 10-year increments and a stroller division award. A $350 prize purse is available, allocated to top male and female finishers as $100, $50, and $25. Two aid stations supply water and Gatorade near mile 1 and mile 3. Downtown Leavenworth has several free parking lots within a short walk of the start area.
