Calvin Classic 5k and Youth Fun Run
The Calvin Classic 5k and Youth Fun Run is a multi-event athletic gathering held on the campus of Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The event includes competitive and recreational options for different age groups and mobility needs. The main 5k course is USATF certified and follows a relatively flat path through the university grounds.
Available distances and categories include:
- 5k (3.1 Miles) for runners, walkers, and handcycle participants.
- 100 Yards Youth Fun Run specifically for children ages 3-9.
- Virtual 5k and Virtual Youth Fun Run for remote participation.
The event structure accommodates various participants by staggering starts. Handcycle racers begin first, followed by runners, and finally walkers. Strollers are permitted but are required to remain at the back of the pack. To ensure safety on the course, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, and animals are prohibited.
Participants in the in-person races receive a race shirt in youth or unisex sizes. Children participating in the Youth Fun Run also receive a participation ribbon and a Calvin sticker. For those joining via the virtual options, race kits containing a shirt, bib, and stickers are mailed to the registrant's provided address. The event proceeds support the Calvin Alumni Association.
