Calderdale Hike
The Calderdale Hike is an annual endurance event held in the high Pennine valleys around Sowerby Bridge. The routes run across tracks and surrounding moors and include steep ascents and descents between moor tops. The event is organised by the 24th St Pauls Scout Group and raises funds for their work with young people.
There are three circular routes setting out from St Peter's Cricket Club, Sowerby Bridge. Distances offered:
- 35 miles
- 24 miles
- 16 miles
The 35 mile route involves about 5500 feet of ascent and the 24 mile route about 3800 feet; the shortest route involves roughly 2700 feet of ascent. Navigation skills are recommended because some terrain can be harsh, especially in poor weather. Registration, kit checks and the start are based at St Peter's Cricket Club. A compulsory kit check is part of the event.
Entry details include refreshments at headquarters and checkpoints, water at roadside checkpoints, transport from roadside retirement points back to headquarters, a hot meal at the finish, a licensed bar, a certificate of achievement and professional timing with full results. Free car parking is available at Ryburn School across the road and on the road outside.
Entries open 12 September 2025 and close 9 April 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
