The Calderdale Hike

The event takes place on Saturday, 11 April 2026. It starts and finishes at St Peter's Cricket Club in Sowerby Bridge.

Three circular route distances are available:

  • 35 miles (5500 feet of ascent)
  • 24 miles (3800 feet of ascent)
  • 16 miles (2700 feet of ascent)

The routes go through the Pennine valleys and moors west of Sowerby Bridge, towards the Lancashire border. They use tracks across the moors and involve steep ascents and descents. Registration and a compulsory kit check happen at the start. The event is open to both walkers and runners. All participants must be aged 14 or older on the event date.

A time limit applies, with all distances to be completed by 8pm. The entry fee includes refreshments at headquarters and checkpoints, water at roadside checkpoints, transport back from any retirement point, a hot meal at the finish, a certificate, and full results. Free car parking is available nearby at Ryburn School.

The event has been held annually since 1979 to raise money for local Scout group activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
