Event

The Calderdale Hike takes place on Saturday 11 April 2026 at St Peter's Cricket Club, Sowerby Bridge (HX6 1DF). It is organised by the 24th St Paul's Scout Group and is open to all entrants aged 14 or older on the day. The event runs over tracks across the high Pennine valleys and surrounding moors. The route includes steep ascents and descents, and navigation skills are recommended in poor weather.

The event raises money for 24th St Paul’s Scouts and is listed as part of the Runfurther Championship for 2025. Registration and kit check are carried out at the cricket club before each start.

Routes, entries and services

Courses are circular routes running west from Sowerby towards the Lancashire border. Distances offered:

  • 35 miles
  • 24 miles
  • 16 miles

The long route involves about 5,500 feet of ascent and the medium route about 3,800 feet. The shortest route involves around 2,700 feet of ascent. Entries open 12 September 2025 and close 9 April 2026. Entry fees are £25 for individuals and £90 for teams of four; reduced team rates are available for groups of young people aged 14–18.

Facilities include refreshments at headquarters and checkpoints, water at roadside checkpoints, transport from roadside retirement points back to HQ, a hot meal at HQ, a licensed bar, a certificate of achievement, professional timing by Race Result, and a full results sheet.
