Holme Moss Fell Race
Holme Moss Fell Race is an open event organised by Holmfirth Harriers. It is a category AL fell race covering 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent across Pennine moorland on the edge of the Peak District. The race finishes at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth HD9 2TU, and race headquarters are at the same venue.
The course includes steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, river crossings and several remote sections. Navigation skills are essential; flags may be sparse in places and the use of GPS for navigation is prohibited under Fell Runners Association rules. Runners should be capable of completing the course in about 5 hours 30 minutes and must expect cutoffs at designated checkpoints.
Entries are limited to 200 and the minimum age is 18. Entry prices are set by category with lower advance rates for Fell Runners Association members and higher on-the-day fees. Safety cover is provided by the local mountain rescue team and a raffle is organised to support their funds. A race map and GPX file are made available and chip timing with live tracking points is used on the course.
Mandatory kit checks are carried out; required items include waterproof full body cover with hood, hat, gloves, suitable map and compass, whistle, emergency food and a cup or personal water supply. Failure to meet minimum kit requirements will prevent participation without refund. Prizes are awarded across male, female and veteran categories and for teams.
