Event details

The Holme Moss Fell Race takes place on Sunday 26 July 2026 at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth, HD9 2TU (GR SE134067). It is a category AL fell race for experienced runners. Minimum age is 18 and the field is limited to 200 entrants. Pre-entry fees are listed as £14 for FRA members and £16 for non-members. Entries close on Wednesday 22 July 2026.

Course and logistics

The course is approximately 17.8 miles (about 28.5 km) with about 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent. The route runs over Pennine moorland and includes sections of the Pennine Way, steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, river crossings and some remote areas. The race starts about half a mile from the registration venue and finishes at the registration area. Several checkpoints are used, including Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks and Black Hill. Parts of the route are flagged but navigation skills are required.

Rules, safety and kit

The race follows FRA rules and requires navigation competence. Mandatory kit checks will be carried out. Required kit includes waterproof full-body cover with hood and taped seams, hat, gloves, a suitable map, a compass, a whistle, emergency food and a cup or personal drinking container (500 ml recommended). Use of GPS for navigation is prohibited. Runners should be capable of completing the course within the expected time and must obey marshal instructions at cutoff points. Mountain rescue provides safety cover and a fundraising raffle is organised on the day.

Prizes and facilities

Prizes are awarded to the first 10 men, first 5 women, five-year veteran age categories, under-23 and team prizes (based on the first three finishers from each team).
