Holme Moss Fell Race

The Holme Moss Fell Race, organised by Holmfirth Harriers, is scheduled for 26 July 2026 and is based at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (GR 134067). The route covers 28.5 km (17.8 miles) with about 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent. Entry is limited to 200 runners and the minimum age is 18. The race is graded category AL and is intended for experienced fell runners; navigation skills are essential and the event is run under Fell Runners Association rules.

Course, safety and requirements

The course runs over Pennine moorland and includes sections of the Pennine Way, steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, stream crossings and remote areas. Checkpoints include Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks and Black Hill, with the finish at the race HQ. Holme Valley Mountain Rescue provides safety cover and a fundraiser raffle is held in aid of the team. Runners should be capable of completing the course in 5 hours 30 minutes and there are cut-offs at key checkpoints; marshal instructions must be obeyed.

Mandatory kit is checked and includes waterproof full body cover with hood, hat, gloves, a map and compass, a whistle, emergency food and a cup or personal water container. The use of GPS for navigation is prohibited under FRA rules. Prizes are awarded by gender, age categories and teams. Maps: OS Peak District OL1 or Landranger 110.
