Holme Moss Fell Race is an open, category AL fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers and based at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (HD9 2TU). The course is about 17.8 miles (28.5–28.6 km) with approximately 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent. The event has an entry limit of 200 and a minimum age of 18. Pre-entry fees are listed as £14 for FRA members and £16 for non-members; entries are available through SiEntries and there is provision for entry on the day up to the race limit. The race is run under Fell Runners Association rules and Holme Valley Mountain Rescue provide safety cover; a raffle is organised in aid of the rescue team.
Course, rules and prizes
The route uses large areas of Pennine moorland and sections of the Pennine Way, including steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, river crossings and remote sections where navigation and local knowledge are important. Checkpoints on the route include Holme Moss, Tooleyshaw Moor, Crowden, Bareholme Moss, Laddow Rocks and Black Hill. Runners should be capable of completing the course in around 5 hours 30 minutes and there are cut-offs at intermediate checkpoints. Mandatory kit is checked and includes waterproof full body cover with hood, hat, gloves, suitable map and compass, whistle, emergency food and a cup or container for drinks.
