Holme Moss Fell Race
Holme Moss Fell Race is an AL category fell race organised by Holmfirth Harriers and based at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club, Holmfirth (GR SE134067). The course covers approximately 17.8 miles (28.5 km) with about 1,285 m (4,215 ft) of ascent across Pennine moorland and sections of the Pennine Way. The route includes steep trackless moorland, rocky climbs, stream crossings and remote sections where local knowledge and navigation are useful.
The event has an entry limit of 200 and a minimum age of 18. Runners must have prior fell or mountain running experience and be competent with map and compass; the race is not intended as a first fell race. FRA safety requirements apply and mandatory kit will be checked. Required equipment includes waterproof full body cover with hood and taped seams, a hat, gloves, a map suitable for the route, a compass capable of taking a bearing, a whistle, emergency food, and a cup or personal container for drink stations; GPS navigation is prohibited.
There are multiple checkpoints and marshalled cut-off points on the course; runners should be capable of completing the route in around 5 hours 30 minutes. The race uses SI timing with live tracking points, offers post-race food and drink for competitors, provides a race map for a small mountain rescue donation, and supports Holme Valley Mountain Rescue through a raffle and donations. Prizes are awarded across multiple individual and team categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
