Event Overview
The Calderdale Crawl is a long-distance event organized by the Calderdale LDWA, taking place in the undulating landscape surrounding Halifax. Participants can choose to complete the course as a walk or a run, with a total time limit of 10 hours to finish the route.
The event includes the following distance:
- 24 miles
Route and Terrain
The course primarily follows public footpaths, crossing through woods, tracks, and open fields. The route also features a short section integrated alongside the River Calder and the local canal. While the midday checkpoint at Ripponden is located indoors, the remaining checkpoints throughout the course are positioned outdoors. A formal route description and GPX file are provided to participants before the event begins.
Facilities and Logistics
The event starts and finishes at the Heath Rugby Union Football Club at North Dean, where free on-site car parking is available for participants. The organizers provide refreshments at the start, at locations along the route, and a meal upon return to the finish line. To minimize plastic waste, all participants are required to bring their own mug for drinks.
Participation and Entry
The event is open to both LDWA members and non-members, with a discounted entry fee for members. Young persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an appropriate adult. All finishers receive a certificate and a memento. Dogs are permitted if they are kept under full control by their owners, though they may be restricted from entering the rugby club building.
