Event overview

The Cake by the Lake 5K Run and Walks take place on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Inverness, Florida. The event starts and finishes at Liberty Park (268 N. Apopka Ave.) and uses the Withlacoochee State Trail. The program includes three events:

5K Run
5K Race Walk and Power Walk (observer-monitors, no judges or red cards)
One Mile Cakewalk

5K race walkers start three minutes after the 5K runners, and the one-mile walkers start three minutes after the race walkers.

Course, entry and awards

The course is described as flat, straight, and well maintained and follows the shores of the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes. Finishers receive medals with a neck ribbon unique to 2026. Age-group cake plate awards for the combined 5K races are awarded three-deep in five-year increments. Youth entries receive different swag than adults, including a heavy 3" full-color medal; youth pricing is listed for ages 12 and under and for ages 13-17, with adults 18 and older. The event does not include complimentary T-shirts; a specially designed WST Cake By The Lake T-shirt is available for purchase before the race. Free photos will be posted online.
