Cacapon 12 Hour Challenge

The Cacapon 12 Hour Challenge is a timed ultrarunning event held in Berkeley Springs, WV, on a scenic single-track trail that uses a roughly five-mile loop. The loop features moderately to very technical terrain, about 750 feet of elevation change per lap, and a few crossings of lightly traveled park roads. Some stream crossings may occur depending on recent rainfall. The route is well marked and maintained and is rated (4,4) on the Ultrarunning.com scale.

The loop will be run in the same direction used in the two most recent editions, which is the opposite direction of earlier years. A full aid station is located at the start/finish area and provides Tailwind, water, and various food items. An additional aid station offers water and sports drink approximately halfway around the loop. A post event meal is served in mid-afternoon.

Awards include hand-crafted pieces from a local artisan for the top three men and top three women. Solo runners who complete ten loops earn membership in the Cacapon 50 Mile Club and receive a commemorative pint glass. Finisher awards are given to everyone who completes at least one loop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
