BUTS Bearly Ultra : Red Mountain Park, Birmingham AL
The BUTS Bearly Ultra is a trail running event on Red Mountain Park near Birmingham, Alabama. The course is built around a 13.5-mile loop that features a mix of old rail beds, twisty root-filled single track, and the BMRR trails. The loop includes roughly 1500 feet of elevation and passes Grace's Gap Overlook and areas with old mine shafts. The 27-mile option is two loops of the 13.5-mile course.
The route description mentions a range of trail surfaces and features, from runnable rail-bed sections to technical single track. Runners encounter viewpoints, trail furniture such as chairs and swings, and named trail sections like Ike and the BMRR trails.
The course includes aid stations; the loop passes at least one station multiple times. Finish-line provisions include hot food, cold drinks, and a finisher medal. Bib pickup is available the morning of the race at Red Mountain Park. The event uses HuTags for timing and recommends taller socks because the timing tags are worn on the ankle.
