Burrator Horseshoe and Sheepstor Challenge : Meavy, Dartmoor
The event brings together a moorland fell run and a village fair in Meavy on 20 June 2026. The main course, the Burrator Horseshoe, is a roughly 6-mile route over Dartmoor visiting Burrator Reservoir, Sheepstor Dam, Sheepstor summit (369 m), Gutter Tor summit (357 m) and Ringmoor Down, with a ford crossing before the finish on the village green. A shorter option, the Sheepstor Challenge, is about 4 miles and turns back after the first rise at Sheepstor, returning the way it came.
- 6 miles Burrator Horseshoe
- 4 miles Sheepstor Challenge
- Junior races U10, U12, U14, U16; minimum junior age 8
The Horseshoe is a running race rather than a walk; there is a cut-off of 35 minutes at the first rise of Sheepstor. Junior races start from Marchants Cross and include a steep loop with a ford dip for U10/U12 and a longer loop for U14/U16. U18 competitors may take part in the Sheepstor Challenge and U20 may enter senior races. The event operates under Fell Runners Association rules and licence and is limited to 250 competitors. Entry fees are published for each category and online entries close 17 June. Parking recommendations, a voluntary parking donation to the parish, a cleared cut-through from Sheepstor Dam, registration near the village hall and prize awards including club-team trophies are included in the event arrangements.
