Burns Park Run

The 48th annual Burns Park Run takes place in a residential area of Ann Arbor situated near the University of Michigan campus. This long-standing community event features a tree-lined loop course that travels through the local neighborhood. The race serves as the largest annual fundraiser for the Burns Park Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), supporting various school initiatives and student activities.

The event is managed by volunteer directors and parents from the school community. Participation typically ranges between 1,000 and 1,500 runners, with ages spanning from 5 to 90 years old. The program includes multiple distance options to accommodate different participants:

  • 10K Run / Walk
  • 5K Run / Walk
  • 1/2 Mile Kids Fun Run

The 1/2 mile distance is held specifically for the youngest participants and takes place around the park. The 5K event frequently draws over 200 elementary school children. Originally established in 1979 to fund 6th-grade camp trips, the event has grown over four decades into a broad community race that welcomes both local residents and visitors to the neighborhood surroundings.
