Buffalo Trace Trail Race
The Buffalo Trace Trail Race takes place on May 9, 2026, at the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet, Illinois. The event is organized by the Second Wind Running Club and is part of the club's race circuit.
The course follows approximately 5-mile trails through wooded sections and prairie areas at the preserve. Online registration is available through race day and the standard registration fee is $30. A percentage of race proceeds and all race donations will be given to the Forest Preserve Friends Foundation.
Parking for the event is available only at Mahomet-Seymour High School. The race start and finish are a short walk north of the high school, at the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve west parking lot off Crowley Road. Packet pickup takes place on race day in the high school parking lot.
Pets and running strollers are not permitted in the race. The event uses volunteers for race operations, with a list of volunteer tasks provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
