The Buckingham Half Marathon
The Buckingham Half Marathon is a 13.1 mile road race held in May around Buckingham and nearby villages. The course is a single lap on quiet country lanes and tarmac paths, with a small grass section at the start and finish. The route passes through Leckhampstead, Wicken and Akeley.
The profile is undulating. Water is provided at 3.1, 5, 7, 10 and 11.5 miles, and distance markers are placed every mile. The course is not traffic free but uses very quiet lanes. The route is not accessible for wheelchair users. Entrants must be at least 17 years old; under 17s are not allowed to participate.
Facilities include toilets, supervised bag storage and parking at Buckingham Rugby Club MK18 1RF, a three minute walk to the start. There is no changing available. Every finisher receives a medal and winners receive trophies.
Entry is available online only; postal entry is not offered. On the day entry is possible but the price increases to £35. Standard entry fees are £28 for affiliated runners and £30 for unaffiliated runners. Refunds are not provided for non participation. The event is organised as a charity race and the organisers reference Forever Colours; Young Carers Bucks is also listed in the event information.
A children's race is provided with a mini mile for 4 to 6 year olds and a 1 km race for 6 to 14 year olds. Children under 6 may take part if they can complete the distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
