The Buckingham Half Marathon
The Buckingham Half Marathon is a single-lap 13.1 mile road race through rural Buckinghamshire. The course is an anti-clockwise loop on quiet country lanes and tarmac paths, passing through Leckhampstead, Wicken and Akeley. The route is undulating and fully marshaled, with mile markers.
The event is organised by the local running club and is held in May. It is run under UK Athletics rules, race licence number 2025 - 29011, and uses chip timing provided by Chiptiming Solutions. Water stations with bottled water are located at 3.1, 5, 7, 10 and 11.5 miles. There is a time limit of three hours. Marshals and course signage will direct runners and participants should normally run on the left unless instructed otherwise.
Facilities at the race headquarters include parking for around 140 cars, toilets, changing rooms and supervised baggage storage at the start. All finishers receive a bespoke event medal and there are free post-race tea, coffee and cake. Race photographs are taken and made available free of charge. First aid cover is provided at the start/finish and on the course.
Children’s races are held on the day with the following distances and on the day entry fee of £3:
- 4 to 6 year olds run just under half a mile
- 7 to 9 year olds run 0.8 miles
- 10 to 14 year olds run 1.3 miles
Entry fees for the half are listed as affiliated £28 and unaffiliated £30, with higher fees for on the day entry if available. Transfers are accepted by a stated deadline and entries cannot be deferred to the following year. Trophies are awarded in overall and age group categories.
