Brown County Hilly Half
The Brown County Hilly Half is an annual running event held in Brown County State Park. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Brown County YMCA and focuses on promoting health and well-being. Participants run through scenic routes that feature vistas, ridge tops, and wooded areas within the state park environment.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 5K
The Half Marathon course starts and finishes at the Saddle Barn/Lower Shelter house. The route includes an initial two-mile climb followed by stretches along park ridge tops that offer views of the surrounding landscape. The course also passes near a fire tower before concluding with a two-mile downhill section toward the finish line. Results for all distances are recorded using chip timing, which concludes in the early afternoon.
A post-race party is organized for participants at the conclusion of the event. This gathering includes live music, wood fires, and food such as hot soup and breadsticks provided by the Abe Martin Lodge and Rafters. Beverages are provided by Quaff ON! Brewing Co. Packet pickup is available on the Friday afternoon preceding the race at the Brown County YMCA in Nashville, Indiana, or on the morning of the event at the park's Lower Shelter House. According to event insurance regulations, dogs are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
