Event format
Brighton Backyard Ultra is an endurance event at Stanmer Park where participants run a repeated lap of 4 miles 880 feet (6.7056 km). Each lap must be started on the hour and completed within 60 minutes. Runners may stop when they choose; the event continues until one runner completes an extra solo lap and is declared the winner. If a participant fails to start at the whistle or does not cross the start line within 30 seconds, they are recorded as DNS/DNF. Laps are out-and-back on the same marked route; runners must remain on course except to use the toilets, may not accept personal aid during a lap, and may not use poles or other artificial aids. Headphones are permitted but must not interfere with safety or hearing race cues.
Location, facilities and requirements
The event is held in Stanmer Park Nature Reserve, Falmer, Brighton, BN1 9RG, in a field on the east side of Stony Mere Way. Facilities at the starting corral include space to pitch a rest area, a rest marquee, toilets, hot and cold water, basic drinks and snacks, and on-site photography. Drinks and snacks are basic and limited; participants are advised to bring their own food, bottle for refills, and power banks because there are no electrical hookups. Parking in the park is public, charged on a first-come first-served basis and paid via the PayByPhone app. Mandatory kit includes a torch (head, chest, or waist) and a high-visibility item for darkness, and race numbers must be worn at all times. Results are published on the event website. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
