Brighton Backyard Ultra
The Brighton Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held at the Stanmer Park Nature Reserve in Falmer, Brighton. Following the classic backyard ultra format, participants must complete a loop of 4.167 miles (6.7056 kilometers) every hour, on the hour. The event continues until only one runner is able to complete a loop within the 60-minute time limit.
The course is designed as an out-and-back route. Runners head to the top of the park or trail and then return along the same path to the start and finish area. The route is fully marked with directional arrows and fluorescent signs to guide participants and alert other park users. While there is no set finish line or minimum distance, runners must finish each lap in under an hour to remain in the race. Any time remaining within the hour can be used for rest and recovery.
Participants are provided with a dedicated pitch to set up a personal rest area. For those without a private setup, a limited rest marquee is available. The event provides several facilities and amenities, including:
- Participant medal for all entrants
- Winner trophy and medal for the final finisher
- Hot and cold water
- Drinks and snacks
- Photography and videography services
A head torch, chest torch, or waist torch is required equipment for this event. High-visibility clothing is also recommended for safety during any night loops. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
