BRIGHT Run
BRIGHT Run is a non-competitive community walk and run held at Christie Lake Conservation Area on the first Saturday after Labour Day. The 19th annual event is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026. Distances offered include short and longer options for participants.
The event raises funds for local breast cancer research in Hamilton. Every dollar raised by participants goes directly to local research projects. All proceeds are administered by the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, charitable number 131159543 RR0001. Community partners cover organizing and hosting expenses and the event is entirely volunteer powered with no paid staff.
To date BRIGHT Run has funded 24 research projects, each ranging in value between $50,000 and $100,000. The 2025 event drew about 1,700 participants and 200 volunteers. For 2026 the public fundraising goal is $500,026 and the total raised so far is $268,837, approximately 54 percent of the target.
Fundraising incentives for 2026 include an entry to win two round-trip tickets on Porter Airlines for participants who raise a minimum of $200 by Friday, September 11; the prize value is listed as approximately $3,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
