BRIGHT Run
The BRIGHT Run is an annual non-competitive event held at the Christie Lake Conservation Area. This family-friendly gathering is dedicated to raising funds for local breast cancer research in Hamilton. Participants can choose to walk or run on two available routes:
- 1 km
- 5 km
The event takes place on the first Saturday after Labour Day. It is a 100% volunteer-powered initiative with no paid staff members. All organizing and hosting expenses are covered by community partners, ensuring that every dollar raised by participants goes directly to fund local research projects.
To date, the BRIGHT Run has supported 24 research projects, with funding for individual studies typically ranging between $50,000 and $100,000. These projects investigate various areas, including genetic susceptibility, post-mastectomy body image concerns, and specific aggressive forms of breast cancer. The 2025 edition of the event saw a turnout of 1,700 participants supported by 200 volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
