15th Annual Breeze in the Trees 5k
The 15th Annual Breeze in the Trees 5k offers a unique opportunity to run through the private grounds of the Green Valley Pecan Company in Sahuarita, Arizona. The event serves as part of the "Orchard Series," allowing participants to experience the farm during the summer season when the pecan trees feature a full canopy of leaves.
The course consists of:
- 5 km run or walk on dirt roads and trails through the orchard fields.
The competition is USATF sanctioned and utilizes chip timing to record participant results. The route follows private dirt roads located between the trees, providing shade during the summer morning. For safety and farm regulations, dogs are not permitted on the course.
Participants receive a 50/50 blend T-shirt, provided they register by the middle of July. After the race, the Green Valley Firefighters Association provides a pancake breakfast topped with local pecans. Coffee, water, and snacks are also available. The first 300 runners to cross the finish line receive a collectible medal. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in various age divisions, ranging from children to runners over 80 years old, while overall and masters winners receive gift certificates.
