Event Overview

The Braids Hill Race is an annual cross-country running event organized by Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds. It takes place on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Course Details

The race is held on the scenic, rolling hills of southern Edinburgh, with views of the city skyline. The undulating course includes one steep downhill section on each lap. Conditions can be wet, and a portion of the course runs over a gravel bridle path. A course map is available on the Hare and Hounds website.

Distances

Participants can choose between two race distances:

  • 5 km (1 loop) starting at 1:30 PM
  • 10 km (2 loops) starting at 2:15 PM

Fell or studded racing shoes are recommended, but spikes are not due to the gravel path.

Registration and Facilities

Advanced online entry costs £12.00 for Scottish Athletics affiliated runners and current university students representing a university club; a £2 levy applies for others. On-the-day entries cost an additional £2 per person. Registration opens at 11 AM and closes at 1 PM at a location yet to be confirmed, likely at Edinburgh University's King's Buildings. There are no toilets or parking at the race start, but there are toilet facilities at the registration area.

Important Notes

Participants must be 18 or older on race day. Runners are asked not to use the golf course greens, fairways, or facilities, and to avoid the public road parallel to the bridle path. A prize-giving ceremony is held after the 10 km race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
