Brad Schoener MusicMan 5K Run & 1 Mile Spirit Walk
The Brad Schoener MusicMan event takes place at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. This athletic gathering serves as the primary fundraiser for the Brad Schoener Memorial Music Fund, which provides instruments, instruction, and scholarships for music students in the Upper Darby School District. The event features two main participation options:
- 5K Run
- 1 Mile Spirit Walk
The course is notable for featuring live musical performances along the route. Participants can expect to hear drumlines, bagpipes, brass ensembles, a ukulele circle, and the Delaware County Flute Choir while they navigate the path. Pre-race activities include a group stretching session led by YMCA trainers and an "Inflatable Fun Run" where school teams compete for a spirit award.
Check-in and bib pickup occur at Arlington Field behind the Arlington Mansion. Free parking is provided at Drexel Hill Middle School and the Kindergarten Center nearby. Participants receive a swag bag and a unique finisher medal consisting of a working mini-harmonica. Additional awards for age group winners and overall top finishers also feature harmonicas, including gold-plated versions for the overall winners. This event maintains a no-pets policy on the grounds of the cemetery.
Proceeds from the registration fees support various initiatives including summer camps, community music programs, and instruments for students who might not otherwise have access to musical education. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
