Event Overview

The Boxing Day Challenge is a running event held on a public footpath along the River Thames. It offers a 6 hour timed challenge, during which participants can complete multiple laps to achieve distances from 5k up to an ultra marathon. Participants can start a final lap up until 5 hours and 59 minutes into the event.

Course and Format

The route is an out-and-back course measuring 3.28 miles. Runners aiming for a 5k use an earlier turn point, while a 10k is completed by running the 5k lap twice. The event is licensed by the TRA and run under UK Athletics rules, with maximum permitted distances varying by participant age.

Facilities and Logistics

Toilets and changing facilities are available at the Wraysbury Skiff and Punting Club, which serves as the event location. There is parking available on site at Runnymede Pleasure Grounds, for which a fee applies. An unmanned baggage storage area is located next to the start/finish line, but items are left at the participant's own risk.

On Course Support

An aid table is positioned at the end of each lap, offering water, squash, fizzy drinks, and a variety of food.

Participant Perks

All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a goody bag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
