Boxing Day Challenge
The Boxing Day Challenge is an out and back running event held on a public footpath along the River Thames. The course follows a 3.28-mile route, with a specific turnaround point designated for those completing a 5 km distance. The event is licensed by the TRA and conducted under UKA Athletics rules.
Participants can choose from various distances or take part in a 6-hour challenge. During the time-limited challenge, runners may complete as many laps as they wish, with the option to start a final lap up to 5 hours and 59 minutes into the event. Available distances include:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- Ultra marathon
The event provides an aid station at the end of every lap, offering water, squash, fizzy drinks, and a variety of food. Facilities at the rowing club include toilets and changing areas. While there is no official supervised bag drop, an unmanned area next to the start and finish line is available for storage. Following the completion of the run, participants receive a bespoke medal and a goody bag. Paid parking is located on-site at Runnymede Pleasure Grounds.
Age-related distance restrictions apply in accordance with athletic rules. Participants starting their run before 8:00 AM are required to use a head torch. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
