Run for Literacy at Cooper River Park
The BookSmiles 5K and 1 Mile Walk for Literacy is a community event held at Cooper River Park in Camden County. This race supports a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes books to children and teachers in the South Jersey and Philadelphia areas. The course is flat, fast, and chip-timed, following a path along the Cooper River.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km (run or walk)
- 1 mile (walk only)
The 5K run and the 1 mile walk both utilize the park's scenic views, with the race starting at 510 Park Blvd in Cherry Hill and finishing at the Cooper River track. All participants who register are provided with an event T-shirt. The race features an HD finish line video and text messaging services for results shortly after crossing the finish line.
The event includes an awards ceremony following the races. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5 km race, with 1st place receiving $150, 2nd place $100, and 3rd place $50. Additionally, prizes are available for the top three male and female finishers in various age groups.
