Candy Cane Course - Des Moines
The Candy Cane Course - Des Moines is a holiday-themed running event on December 21, 2025 at Big Creek State Park in Polk City, Iowa. The event group includes the following distances and options:
- 1 Mile
- 5k
- 12k
- Kids Dash (ages 10 and under, untimed)
- Virtual Race
- Volunteer then Run
Entry prices range from $22 to $44. The 5k and 12k registrations include a custom bib, a designer shirt, and a finisher medal. The 1 Mile and Kids Dash are untimed; the Kids Dash registration includes a mini bib, youth-sized shirt, and a specially crafted medal. Youth pricing for 12 and under for the 5k/12k is listed at $22.
Logistics, awards, and policies
Packet pickup is available on race day before the race. Course maps for the 5k and 12k and an interactive map are provided; the course is subject to change due to permits or volunteer restrictions. Chip timing and live results are used for timed events; untimed events and the virtual event do not qualify for age group awards.
Age group awards for the 5k and 12k include overall male and female, masters (40+), and top three male and female in standard age brackets. The organizer has a no-refund policy; events proceed in most weather and will transfer entrants to virtual if the venue requires cancellation or if ice hazards are present.
