Bluebird Run and Walk

The Bluebird Run and Walk is an annual community event held on Labor Day at the JR Alford Greenway in Tallahassee. The event serves as a gathering for suicide awareness and prevention, featuring specific areas dedicated to remembrance and education. Participants can visit Memory Lane, a tribute to individuals lost to suicide, and a Mental Health Fair where local mental health care providers distribute information.

The event offers multiple course options on the greenway's trail system:

  • 5K: A loop course on wide multi-use trails that begins and ends at the trailhead.
  • 1 Mile: An out-and-back route on a canopy trail that crosses the Lafayette Heritage Canopy Bridge.

The 1 Mile course includes a water station located at the turnaround point on the far side of the bridge. For the 5K event, participants can choose between timed and untimed entries. Those who opt for timing receive a race bib to record an official finish time, while untimed participants do not receive a bib.

On-site amenities include a large tent equipped with party lights, where registration takes place. Refreshments provided to participants include sports drinks, bottled water, watermelon, bananas, and sno-cones. T-shirts are available for purchase for both participants and non-participants, with the requirement that items must be collected during the designated packet pick-up or on the morning of the event at the greenway. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
