Bluebird Run and Walk for Brookie B
The Bluebird Run and Walk for Brookie B is a community event held in Tallahassee, Florida, on Labor Day. The event takes place at the JR Alford Greenway, utilizing wide multi-use trails that loop through the natural landscape. The primary focus of the gathering is suicide awareness and prevention, supporting NAMI Tallahassee.
The following distances are available:
- 5K with Timing
- 5K Without Timing
- 1 Mile Without Timing
The 5K course is a trail loop that starts and ends at the trailhead, featuring two water stations along the route. The 1 Mile Fun Run and scenic walk is an out-and-back course on a canopy trail that crosses the Lafayette Heritage Canopy Bridge, with a water station located at the turnaround point.
The event village at the greenway includes a large tent with party lights, a live deejay, and a warm-up session. Participants have access to refreshments such as sports drinks, bottled water, watermelon, bananas, and sno-cones. Two specific areas are central to the event's mission: Memory Lane, a tribute to loved ones lost to suicide where visitors can view and create memorials, and a Mental Health Fair featuring local service providers and resources.
Awards are presented following the timed 5K. Trophies are awarded to overall, masters, and grand masters winners, while medals are provided to the top three finishers in five-year age categories ranging from age 10 to 75 and above. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
