Blueberry Pie 5K and related races in Osterville
The event includes a chip timed 5K plus one mile runs, short kids races and wheelchair divisions. The course starts and finishes at the Cape Cod Cooperative School and Cape Cod Challenger Club, 418 Bumps River Road, Osterville, MA, and follows a rolling route through Osterville. The course is officially measured by USA Track and Field but is not officially certified.
Awards for the 5K include blueberry pies from Centerville Pie Company for overall and category winners. Overall male and female placings and age division winners are listed by standard brackets from under 17 through 80 and over. Additional recognitions include an age graded winner, fastest team or family, and prizes given to every 25th finisher up to the 500th finisher. Participants ages 7 and under and ages 80 and over enter the 5K free.
Kids events offer two free races on a 150 meter loop with one lap for 6 and under and two laps for 10 and under. Finishers in those events receive either a Polar Cave ice cream cone or a Wendy's Frosty coupon and bonus prizes go to overall winners.
The blueberry pie eating contests take place at the finish line with space limited to ten competitors per division. Juniors 12 and under eat one half of a small blueberry pie. For ages 13 and above the men eat a full small pie and the women eat three quarters of a small pie. Pies are six inches. Winners receive a trophy and a t shirt and every contestant receives a baseball hat. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
