Blazing Trails for Brain Injury
Blazing Trails for Brain Injury is a multi-distance sports event held at Chalco Hills at Wehrspann Lake in Omaha, Nebraska. The event is organized by the Brain Injury Association of Nebraska to support individuals impacted by brain injury. Participants can choose between in-person distances and virtual challenges.
The following distances are available:
- 5K Run: A 3.1-mile course on a paved perimeter trail north around Wehrspann Lake featuring a mix of flat sections and hills.
- 1 Mile Walk/Roll: A low-incline path designed for accessibility, traveling from the Natural Resources Center toward the recreation area entrance.
- Virtual Challenge: Options for both the 5K and 1 Mile distances for those participating from other locations.
The 5K Run takes place on a single-track paved path. Due to the narrow nature of the trail, the 5K is limited to runners only, and strollers are not permitted on this specific course. The race is professionally timed. Awards are presented to the first, second, and third-place male and female finishers in the 5K event.
The event includes a youth registration category for participants aged 5 to 12. Standard registration typically includes an event T-shirt if completed by the specified end-of-May deadline. The walk and roll event is designed to be inclusive, focusing on community participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
