About the race
The Blackdown Hill Challenge is a trail running event at Fernhurst Recreation Ground in West Sussex. The main adult route is a 10 km course that gains about 856 ft of elevation and reaches the summit at the Temple of the Winds on Blackdown. A shorter adult trail option is available alongside junior fell races through the foothills.
Distances include:
- 10 km senior race, about 856 ft ascent to Temple of the Winds
- 4.5 km senior trail race
- 5 km junior fell race with 151 ascent
- 2 km junior race
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and run under UK Athletics rules. Facilities listed for the event are on-site parking, fully marked courses, a water station and toilets. The recreation ground is adjacent to the Red Lion pub and the village green, postcode GU27 3HY. Fernhurst sits about 3 miles south of Haslemere on the A286 and about 5 miles north of Midhurst.
Adult races require a minimum age of 16. The event does not permit canicross and no dogs are allowed on the course. All entries are completed online and there are no entries on the day.
