The 2026 14th Annual Black Squirrel event is on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Kent State University, 1550 Ted Boyd Drive, Kent, OH 44242. The event includes a loop course that begins and ends near the entrance to the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center and runs through campus via the Esplanade. The course is marked on site and includes a few small hills. The event is named after Kent State University's unofficial mascot and is open to the public. The organizers state the event will be held rain or shine and that Recreation and Wellness Services reserves the right to refuse any entry.

Registration, kit pickup and awards
Registration fees through Sunday, March 22 include a performance race shirt: $30 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile. From March 23 until April 11 the fees are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile; shirts are not included in this period. T-shirt and bib pick-up is scheduled at the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation & Wellness Center on Friday, April 10 from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 11 starting at 7:00 a.m. Cash prizes are listed for overall male and female finishers: $75 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. Medals are awarded to first, second and third place male and female finishers in specified age groups from 6-9 through 80+. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
