Event overview

The Black Mountains race takes place on Saturday 11 July 2026 from a new HQ at Longtown Hall (Longtown Village Hall, HR2 0LD) in the Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event offers multiple distances, all self-navigated and tracked, with GPX files and maps provided.

  • 50 Miles (80 km) : elevation 11,059 ft
  • 32 Miles (50 km) : elevation 6,663 ft
  • Marathon / 27 Miles (43.4 km) : elevation 5,505 ft
  • Half Marathon / 13 Miles (21 km) : elevation 2,738 ft

Minimum age for entry is 17. Entry fees listed are: £100 for the 50-mile, £85 for 32-mile, £70 for the marathon, and £55 for the half.

Logistics, safety and facilities

All distances require self-navigation on routes that are around 90% trail and 10% road. Participants are tracked throughout the event. Cut-off arrangements include a 24 hour limit for the event; organisers will make safety decisions on the day if severe weather occurs.

Support on course includes checkpoints, water stations, food at the finish for all distances and a mid-way food point for the 50-mile, hot food for ultra entrants, chip timing, trackers, back runners, a full medical team and on-site physio. Mandatory kit is enforced and includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, map or downloaded GPX, 2 litre fluid capacity where required, first aid kit, foil blanket, head torch and whistle, footwear for trails and a reusable cup.
