Event

The Black Forest Ultra is a trail running event held in North Bend, Pennsylvania, at 86 Hyner Park Road. The race distance is 100K and the course follows the Black Forest Trail. Registration opens January 1, 2026.

Course and rules

The course is described as a lollipop route with about 13,400 ft of total elevation gain. Runners encounter a variety of forest types, including pine plantations, giant hemlocks, and red spruce, often during peak fall colors. Some climbs exceed 1,000 ft in under a mile. The route reverses direction each year, which changes whether most elevation is in the front or back half of the course. Crews, pacers, and spectators are not allowed. The event is associated with the Pennsylvania Triple Crown and the Blacklist challenge for athletes who complete that series plus this 100K in a single season.
