Black Excellence 5K
The Black Excellence 5K is a community running event hosted in Lynn, Massachusetts at Grace Methodist Church, 374 Broadway. The event is produced by the North Shore Juneteenth Association, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that centers Black American culture and the African Diaspora through education, storytelling, and community programming. The organization reports that donations are tax deductible and that contributions support program and operating costs.
Amenities include live online, text, and email results, free finish line photos, and personalized bibs for registrations completed at least three weeks in advance. Awards are presented to the top three male and top three female finishers in two age categories: under 18 and over 18.
In-person bib pickup is handled by event staff on site; last-minute registrants who register within 24 hours receive their bib number by text shortly after registration. Virtual participants receive mailed bibs the Monday before the event with an allowance of 3 to 5 days for delivery; virtual participants may upload finish times and photos from Race Day through the following Sunday.
Results and photos are published live online and via email or text, with same-day finish line pictures and free video. The event materials list several tracking options for virtual completion, including measured tracks, treadmill, MapMyRun, certified USATF courses, and Strava; the document notes that four laps on a track equal one mile.
