About the race
The Black Dog 5k is a beach race organised by Cani-Sports Scotland on 13 September 2026 at Pettycur Sands, Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Fife KY3 9SB. The event is a memorial edition and is described as a single out-and-back course on the sand to the Black Rock, round the rock and back, a distance of just under 5k (2.68 miles). Runners should expect to get their feet wet on the outward leg.
Entry is limited to 100 runners with no waiting list. The entry fee is £22 and entries close on Monday 7th September or when the race is full. There will be no on-the-day entries.
Categories include Juniors (11–14) and Kids (7–10) with the younger group required to run accompanied by an adult who is also attached to the dog. Medals are awarded 1st–3rd in all age group categories for male and female and for two-dog teams. A memorial trophy will be awarded to the fastest runner on the beach, with additional memorial trophies for juniors. Voucher prizes are provided for 1st–3rd in each category.
Dogs must be at least one year old on the day, be kept on lead throughout the race and must not be in season, pregnant or nursing. Organisers request suitable harnesses rather than restrictive collars and note dogs who attack will be disqualified. There is no communal dog water; a fresh water container will be available so handlers should bring their own bowl.
Parking, public toilets and local shops are available nearby. The event is covered by public liability insurance but attendees take part at their own risk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
