Black Canyon Triathlon : 25th Annual
The Montrose Recreation Foundation presents the 25th Annual Black Canyon Triathlon on September 26, 2026 in Montrose, Colorado. The event is a sprint distance triathlon that typically attracts about 200 athletes and their families each year. USAT membership is required to compete.
Divisions include youth, adult, team, youth team, and family team. Teams may consist of two or three members and complete distances corresponding to the oldest team member's division. Family teams must include at least one adult 18 years or older. Competitors range in age from about 6 to 70.
Distances:
- Youth ages 6 to 10: 100 yd swim, 5 km bike, 0.8 km run
- Youth ages 11 to 14: 200 yd swim, 8.7 km bike, 2.5 km run
- Youth ages 15 to 18: 500 yd swim, 22 km bike, 5 km run
- Adult 19 and over: 500 yd swim, 22 km bike, 5 km run
The swim takes place in the Montrose Recreation District pool and is heated by age division. The bike course uses paved city streets and county roads suitable for road, mountain, or hybrid bikes. The run is on paved sidewalks and neighborhood streets.
This event is a fundraiser for the Montrose Recreation Foundation. Proceeds support community recreation programs and scholarships. No refunds are given.
