About the race
The Black Bear Half Marathon and 8k takes place in Hendersonville, North Carolina on October 11, 2026. The event is presented by Hunter Subaru and includes both in-person and virtual participation options. Both courses are USATF sanctioned and certified.

The half marathon route has less than 400 feet of elevation gain and runs primarily on a well-marked greenway. Race services include chip timing, complimentary race photos, complimentary parking, and a live DJ. The first 625 half marathon and first 475 8k registrants receive a commemorative finisher medal. Race shirts are provided free with registration through September 13, 2026 : a long sleeve dri-fit shirt for half marathon entrants and a short sleeve dri-fit shirt for 8k entrants; shirts are available for purchase after that date in limited quantities.
On race day there is a Black Bear Fall Market at Jackson Park featuring local artisans, music, and food. The event is the fourth race in the Appalachian Trilogy Series. Additional participant amenities noted by organizers include a Hunter Subaru goody bag, complimentary beer for 21+ at Oklawaha Brewing, spectator-friendly course layout, and one-of-a-kind prizes for overall and age group winners.
