Hare Mountain 100

The Hare Mountain 100 is a 100 mile, point to point endurance run held on October 23, 2026 at Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area in northwest Arkansas. The course uses 100 miles of the Ozark Highlands Trail across the Boston Mountain segment and includes two scenic spur loops. The trail surface is rocky and steep through hardwood, cedar, and pine forests, with creek crossings, waterfalls, bluffs, sandstone outcrops, fall colors, and wildlife.

Elevation gain measured by GPS and topographic mapping ranges from about 20,000 to 24,400 feet. Hare Mountain is the highest point on the Ozark Highlands Trail at approximately 2400 feet. Runners are allowed 38 hours to complete the course; a buckle or official finish is awarded if a runner clears the last aid station cutoff even if finish time exceeds 38 hours.

The event emphasizes wilderness navigation and self sufficiency. A satellite GPS tracking device and the course GPX file on a phone are required for the 100 mile distance and will be checked at check in. Trail wayfinding relies on white blazes for the main trail and blue blazes for spurs; some turns can be missed and conditions such as fallen trees, leaf cover, or fog may obscure the route. Some major aid stations are separated by up to about 12 miles; most are closer. The race is cupless; each runner receives a reusable cup at the start if needed.

Other distances and a proposed 200 mile event have been referenced as part of broader race planning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
