Bison Run 2026

Course and categories
The course is an out-and-back on a paved multi-use trail (Ascot and Area Recreation Trail RR#70) beside the Bud Cotton Buffalo Paddock. The route is described as rolling terrain with notable hills. Strollers are allowed. Personal music is permitted with consideration for other participants. Dogs are allowed if leashed and accompanied; owners must pick up after their dogs.
Age and gender categories are defined for each distance. The 5 km run and 10 km run have multiple age-group categories for male and female participants. The 2 km kids run has age brackets. The 5 km walk is open with male and female categories. Categories may be reviewed and updated.
Logistics and other information
Race packages are available for pick-up at Jack's Place (218 10 St, Wainwright, AB) the day before the event and also at the race site on the morning of the event. Ellis Timing provides manual timing and on-site printed results; results are also published online by the timing provider. Top finishers in each category receive a handmade ceramic mug. Registrants who register before April 1 are guaranteed a handheld soft flask while quantities last. A Wainwright Runners club membership offers a $5 discount on event registration. Fruit, muffins and bagels will be available; refreshments require participants to bring their own cup or bottle. The organizer may cancel or switch to a virtual event for extreme weather, unforeseen circumstances, or health restrictions; entries will not be refunded if the race is cancelled.
