Bison Run 2026
Organized by the Wainwright Runners, the Bison Run is held in Wainwright, Alberta. The race features an out-and-back route on the Ascot and Area Recreation Trail (RR#70), a paved multi-use path located beside the Bud Cotton Buffalo Paddock. The course consists of rolling terrain with several hills.
Participants can select from the following event options:
- 10 km race
- 5 km race
- 5 km walk
- 2 km kids race
The event is subject to variable spring weather conditions, and participants are advised to prepare for changing temperatures. Strollers are permitted on the course. Dogs are also allowed to join their owners provided they remain on a leash at all times. Personal music devices may be used during the run.
Specific age categories are defined for each distance, ranging from children aged 3 to 12 in the kids race to various adult brackets up to 50 years and over. The top three finishers in each category receive a handmade ceramic mug. Post-race food, including fruit, muffins, and bagels, is provided for all participants. Timing is conducted manually by Ellis Timing, with results printed on-site. Parking is available at Davco, with a short walk to the start and finish line.
