Wainwright Runners Backyard Ultra 2026
This event is a Backyard Ultra made up of 6.7 km loops to be completed within one hour, repeated each hour until a maximum of 24 hours (100 miles) is reached. The race starts at Wainwright Splash Park and is run mostly on hard surfaces: asphalt paths, sidewalks and some road sections. Pin flags mark the course.
Each runner has one hour to finish a loop; the event continues hourly until no runners remain or the 24-hour limit is reached. The winner is the last runner remaining and the assist is the second last. If more than two runners start the final loop, the winner is the fastest final lap and the assist the second fastest.
The event also raises funds for the local Wainwright Pound. CA$20 from each registration will be donated and pet food or item donations are accepted for the shelter.
Race facilities include flush toilets at the start/finish and a grassy area for runners and crews. There is no official aid station; limited snacks and water will be available at the start/finish. Package pickup is available the day before at a designated location or on race morning. Registrations are non-refundable but transferable.
All finishers receive a handmade DNF wood coin. Registered participants receive a hooded blanket; swag is limited to 50 items. The organizing body enforces a zero tolerance policy for physical or verbal abuse toward racers, volunteers and staff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
