Bisley Trail Run
The Bisley Trail Run takes place in Bisley Nature Reserve near Pietermaritzburg. The reserve is home to giraffe, wildebeest and zebra, and supports a variety of birdlife including Southern Tchagra, Dwarf Bittern, Corncrake and Booted Eagle.
Routes move through rolling grasslands and thornveld, using a mix of jeep track and singletrack. All courses begin with an opening kilometre of descending trail. The long route includes a sustained, demanding climb around halfway that accounts for much of the total ascent, followed by flowing descents and open bushveld views. The medium route features steady climbs and gentle descents with distant views of the city. The short route is a compact loop with undulations, a few bridge crossings and acacia-dotted grasslands.
No compulsory kit is required for the races. Courses are subject to change. The long, medium and short routes are supported by aid stations along the courses.
