Bisley Trail Run

The Bisley Trail Run takes place in Bisley Nature Reserve near Pietermaritzburg and follows looped trail courses through grassland and thornveld. Wildlife in the reserve includes giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and a variety of birds such as Southern Tchagra, Dwarf Bittern, Corncrake and Booted Eagle. The route offers open views across the reserve and the occasional sighting of grazing animals and abundant birdlife.

Courses are a mix of jeep track and singletrack with rolling terrain, stretches of runnable trail, and sections of steeper climbing. There are three course options with differing distances and elevation profiles:

• 5 km, elevation 153 m, 1 aid station
• 11 km, elevation 310 m, 2 aid stations
• 18 km, elevation 530 m, 3 aid stations

Each course begins with a fast descending kilometre and then moves into flowing trails through acacia-dotted grasslands and thornveld. The long course includes the event’s most significant climb around the halfway point and longer sections of undulating terrain.
