B.I.R.R. Turkey Trot 5K
The B.I.R.R. Turkey Trot 5K is an annual charity event held in Hilo, Hawaii. Organized by the Big Island Road Runners, the race takes place at a new location in Bay Front Park, specifically near the Liliokalani Park and Coconut Island area. The event follows the established route used in previous years but utilizes a updated start and finish area within the park grounds.
This running race is organized as a free event with a focus on community charity. Participants are encouraged to provide donations in the spirit of the holiday. Monetary donations collected during the registration process or at the event are designated for the Hilo Food Bank. Additionally, the organizers collect food donations on the day of the race to support the Malia Puka O Kalani food pantry.
Specific donation incentives are available through local partnerships. The first ten participants who contribute a specific monetary amount during registration receive gift certificates provided by KTA. For those bringing physical goods, the event requests sealed canned and boxed items.
The event serves as a community fun run. Participants are required to collect their bib numbers at the park before the event begins. The race consists of a single distance:
- 5 km running race
The course is located along the bay, providing a route through the scenic Hilo waterfront area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
