Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon
The Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon takes place in the heart of Lancaster County’s Amish Country. The event course leads participants through a rural landscape characterized by rolling hills, active farmland, and grazing cattle. A notable section of the route includes the Valley of No Wires, an area of the county that operates entirely off the grid.
Participants can choose from the following event distances:
- Half Marathon
- 5K Run
- Fire Company Challenge (Includes both the 5K and the Half Marathon)
The event is organized to support the Hand-in-Hand Fire Company, a volunteer organization that has served the local community for over a century. All proceeds from the races and associated activities go directly to the fire company to assist with emergency services for local families and businesses.
The course features 12 support stations positioned along the route to provide water and sports drinks. Several of these stations are located at authentic one-room schoolhouses. For those participating in the Half Marathon, the finish line features a unique medal made from an authentic horseshoe.
Registration for the events include a technical shirt, access to a Friday evening bonfire with s'mores, and a post-race picnic on Saturday. The organizers also coordinate a Pizza and Pasta meal on Friday evening, which includes local shoofly pie. Runners who complete both the Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon and the Garden Spot Half Marathon are eligible for the Road Apple Award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
