The course is primarily on paved paths with moderate elevation changes. A Skyline Trail section runs along a sandstone ridge and provides wide views of the Yellowstone Valley and the Beartooth Mountains. Runners then connect to Skyway Drive, a newer path with gentle curves, rolling hills, and open terrain with distant mountain backdrops.
Both distances loop into the Alkali Creek Trail, which follows a shaded stretch along the creek before returning toward the finish at Two Moon Park.
