Event Overview
The Rodeo Stampede is a running event in Oklahoma City with a western theme. It is scheduled for a Saturday in late February. The event is held at Draper Park.
Race Distances
The event offers several race distances:
- Kids Dash: A short dash for children 10 and under, untimed, with a shirt and special medal.
- 1 Mile Run: An untimed run for all ages.
- 5K Run (3.1 miles): A chip-timed race.
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles): A chip-timed race.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles): A chip-timed race.
- Virtual Run: An option to run remotely.
- Volunteer then Run 5K: A limited option combining volunteer duties with running the 5K.
All finishers of the run distances receive a medal and an event shirt. The Kids Dash participants get a special medal and shirt. Youth pricing is available for the 5K and Quarter Marathon for participants 12 and under.
Event Features and Atmosphere
The event includes a Cowboy Costume Contest with one winner chosen by crowd reaction. The prize includes a future race entry, a trophy, and a prize pack. A DJ provides music and announces runners as they finish. The character Bigfoot is present for photos and interaction. Snacks and refreshments are available at the finish area. Aid stations with water are located on the course.
Awards
For the 5K, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon, awards include:
- Trophies for the first overall male and female finishers.
- A special recognition pin for the first overall male and female masters (age 40+).
- Age group awards (gold, silver, bronze pins) for categories from 10 and under to 70+.
Course and Logistics
The course uses parks and greenbelts, with a mix of surfaces like pavement, crushed granite, and sometimes dirt paths. Packet pickup is offered for 1.5 hours before the race start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
