Trail Running in French Creek State Park
The Big Woods event takes place in Elverson, Pennsylvania, utilizing the trail network within French Creek State Park. Participants navigate a landscape characterized by technical terrain and rocky sections. One prominent landmark along the route is Millers Point, which offers views of the surrounding natural area. The local ecosystem is home to various wildlife, including the fisher cat.
The event features two distinct distances:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10k (6.2 Miles)
The Half Marathon is a technical course that includes over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. It incorporates the most difficult segments of the park trails, including a section known as the "Secret Trail." The terrain requires navigation over significant rocky patches throughout the route.
The 10k adheres to a lollipop style course layout. This shorter distance excludes the "Secret Trail" but remains within the Big Woods trail system. Runners find aid stations positioned at approximately mile 1.7 and mile 4.5. Participants in this distance do not receive a finishers item. For both races, the deadline to be guaranteed a shirt is set for one month prior to the event date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
