Big Timber XC Challenge
The Big Timber XC Challenge is a trail running event at Camp Big Timber in Elgin, Illinois on November 8, 2026. The event offers separate courses on natural terrain and includes a Kids Fun Run for participants ten years old and younger.
Distances:
- 3 Mile Run and Walk : one loop of the perimeter trail
- 5 Mile Run : two loops of the perimeter trail
The main course follows gravel driveways, wide mowed grass paths and a few short stretches of single track through wooded areas. Runners will encounter uneven ground, exposed roots and rocks, low branches, wet or marshy sections and a creek crossing that is roughly 15 feet wide; water depth varies with recent rain or snow. The Kids Fun Run is held on grass and does not cross the creek.
All registered participants receive a shirt and a pancake breakfast. Participants who register by October 14 for the 3-mile and 5-mile events may choose between a flannel shirt or flannel pants with an event patch; later registrants receive a printed long sleeve tech shirt with no guaranteed sizes. Kids Fun Run entries include a short sleeve t shirt and breakfast.
Parking at Camp Big Timber is limited so carpooling is encouraged. Proceeds support the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council and the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin. Awards are given for overall places and specified age groups and there is a raffle with on site prize drawings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
