Big Timber XC Challenge
The Big Timber XC Challenge is a trail running event at Camp Big Timber in Elgin, Illinois on November 8, 2026. The event offers multiple distances and a Kids Fun Run and takes place on natural terrain around the camp property.
Distances:
- 3 Mile Run and Walk : one loop around the perimeter trail
- 5 Mile Run : two loops of the perimeter trail
- Kids Fun Run Approximately 1/4 mile on grass; does not cross the creek
The course uses gravel driveways, open grass areas, wide mowed pathways, and short single-track dirt sections. Runners will encounter uneven ground, exposed tree roots, rocks, low branches and a creek crossing that can vary from ankle to knee depth depending on recent weather. Pancake breakfast and entry shirts are provided to registered participants; kids receive a short sleeve t-shirt and breakfast. Registrants who enter by October 14 may choose a flannel shirt or flannel pants with the event patch; later registrants receive a printed long sleeve tech shirt with no guaranteed size.
Parking at Camp Big Timber is limited and carpooling is encouraged. Awards are given for overall and age group placings, and a raffle is held during the event with winners required to be present to claim prizes.
