Big Timber XC Challenge
The Big Timber XC Challenge is a trail running event at Camp Big Timber in Elgin, Illinois, held on November 8, 2026. The course runs around the Camp Big Timber property and includes natural wooded areas and a creek crossing.
The course surface is a mix of gravel driveways, open grass, wide mowed grass pathways and short stretches of single-track dirt. Runners should expect uneven ground, exposed roots and rocks, low-hanging branches, occasional fallen trees, wet or marshy sections and possible snow or ice. The creek crossing is roughly 15 feet wide; water depth can vary from ankle deep to knee high depending on recent weather and conditions.
Distances
- 3 miles : one loop around the perimeter trail
- 5 miles : two loops of the same perimeter trail
All registered participants receive a shirt and a pancake breakfast. A Kids Fun Run for children 10 years and younger takes place on grass and does not cross the creek; kids receive a short sleeve t-shirt, breakfast, an award and a goodie bag. Entry swag for the 3 mile and 5 mile events includes a choice of flannel shirt or flannel pants for registrations completed by October 14; later registrants receive a printed long sleeve tech shirt without a guaranteed size.
Awards include overall male and female top finishers and age group awards for both distances. Raffle entry is automatic with race entry and prizes are drawn during the event.
