Lake Tahoe Ultra Running
The Big Chief 50K is a trail running event located in the forests between Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The course starts and finishes in Tahoe City, California, utilizing a combination of single-track trails and fire roads. Participants navigate terrain through forests and over rocky summits, experiencing elevations that range from 6,225 feet to 7,500 feet. The approximate total elevation gain for the event is 4,500 feet.

The event provides five aid stations along the route, located at approximately miles 7.17, 13.25, 19.7, 25.4, and 31. These stations are stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, and salty snacks, supplemented by additional hydration stops at miles 4.8 and 23.3. Medical personnel are stationed both on the course and at the finish line for participant safety.
The event has an official finishing cutoff time of 8.5 hours. Participants receive a technical race shirt, free digital photos, and a finisher medal. Post-race amenities include a meal, recovery food, and various cold beverages. Awards are presented for overall performance and within specific age groups.
