Big Chief 50K Ultra Trail Run
The Big Chief 50K is a loop trail race in North Lake Tahoe that uses single track and fire road trails through the forests between Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The route passes through areas of towering trees, offers extended views, and includes rocky summits. The course elevation ranges from 6225 to 7500 feet with about 4500 feet of total elevation gain. The race begins and ends in Tahoe City, California.
There are five staffed aid stations along the course providing water, electrolyte beverages, fruit, and salty snacks. Medical support is available on the course and at the finish area. The official cutoff for finishers is 8.5 hours; organizers note they work to accommodate participants who wish to complete the distance.
All entrants receive a technical race shirt, a finisher medal, and a free digital photo. Cold beverages including beer and recovery food are available at the finish. Awards are given by age group and overall. Entry fees are tiered by registration date with separate pricing for youth and senior runners. Youth is defined as 18 years and under and senior as 65 years and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
