Big Breton Backyard Ultra 2026
The Big Breton Backyard Ultra is a trail running event in Sydney, Nova Scotia, scheduled for September 12, 2026. The race takes place at the Coxheath Mountain Trail (Access Road entrance). Registration closes on September 11, 2026.
The event uses the backyard ultra format: participants run a loop of 6.7056 km (4 miles 880 feet) and must complete each loop within one hour. Each loop starts exactly one hour after the previous; warnings are given 3, 2, and 1 minute before the start and all competitors must begin at the bell. Except for restroom breaks, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. Personal aid during a loop is not allowed; common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are prohibited. Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass.
Timing of individual loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other competitors are recorded as DNF. If no runner completes one more loop than everyone else, there is no winner. The race is open-ended with no predefined cap on loops.
Entry fee is 50 CAD and includes a custom BBBYU tee plus entry into a draw. Cash prizes are listed for the winner and for an assist. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
