Event Overview

The Big Bay Relay is a team running event from Marquette, Michigan, to Big Bay, Michigan. The 2026 edition will be the 48th annual race.

Race Format

Teams of five runners cover a total distance of 26 miles. Youth teams may include up to seven runners. Each participant runs approximately one mile at a time before passing a baton to a teammate. While one runner is active, teammates provide support from a designated vehicle, driving ahead to each exchange point.

Course and Start/Finish

The relay starts at the Kaufman Sports Complex in Marquette and finishes at Perkins Park in Big Bay.

Team Categories and Registration

Registration is open for teams of five runners. Divisions include all-female, all-male, or mixed teams. A junior division is available for youth teams with up to seven members. All team members receive a participation medallion and other race items. Event t-shirts are available for purchase.

Community and History

The event has been held since 1972 and has grown from ten teams to over fifty in recent years. Race proceeds benefit the walk, hike, bike, and ski trails in Powell Township. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
