Big Babies 5K
The Big Babies 5K is a run and walk event held in East Lansing on the campus of Michigan State University. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Big Babies Fund, which provides financial assistance for the medical expenses of young large animals, such as foals, calves, and kids, treated at the MSU Veterinary Medical Center. The funds also contribute to the training of veterinary students and residents specializing in the care of newborn large animals.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- 5k Run/Walk (3.1 miles)
- 5k Run/Walk for MSU students with valid identification (3.1 miles)
The course is open to dogs, provided they remain on a leash. Participants with dogs are requested to start at the back of the group. The race is chip-timed by the Michigan Running Foundation, with results available live and online following the activity.
Registered participants who sign up by the late August deadline are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners. Additionally, medals are awarded to the first and second place finishers across several age categories, ranging from ages 10 and under to 71 and over. Packet pickup is held at the Large Animal Clinic on the Friday preceding the event or at Conrad Hall on the morning of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
