Ben's Memorial Mile & Community Festival
Ben's Memorial Mile & Community Festival is an annual event in downtown Downers Grove that raises money and awareness for mental health and that honors the life of Ben. The event combines family activities and timed road races with a free community festival.
The on-course program includes a little kids 100 meter dash and two chip timed one mile road races organized by expected finish pace. Registration for the open and elite miles opens on April 8 with a standard fee of $20; the fee increases to $25 after July 8. The little kids 100 meter dash is free. T shirts are available for purchase for $10, and registrations must be completed by July 22 to receive a T shirt.
The community festival is free to attend and features live music, concessions, raffles, mental health booths, fitness booths, art booths, kids activities, a food truck offering snow cones and shaved ice, and corn hole. Ben's Memorial Mile operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and states that all proceeds are donated to mental health foundations.
